TOTAL COMPUTER OVERHAUL Day 1

Ok, my challenge for the members of the Total Home Overhaul, and anyone else who wants to jump in is OUR COMPUTERS!! I told you it was one of if not the most ignored but needed projects in your home. If you want to join our Yahoo Group just add your email addy to the info box in the toolbar on the left under Total Home Overhaul. We are a very quiet group working at our own pace and will not inundate your email box with tons of junk. What we will do is love you no matter what, be totally honest with you, and help when you ask, BUT you must first ask.

This is Monday's Assignment.

First things first..... We are going to clean the insides of our computer screen, yes it is possible with just the click of a button, no tools required. Click HERE.

Okay, that's good close out of it.

If you do not have the important information for your computer on the Troubleshooting and Maintaining Your PC by Computers for Dummies. Pick up an inexpensive expand-a-file (now is the time to grab one) and keep this information along with the receipt for your computer (if you can locate it) and warranty information. Gather the information from all your appliances and major purchases as you can (not right now) and file them together.

ALSO you may want to consider investing in an external hard drive, you can purchase one for about $100. If you work from your computer, this is a necessity. If your computer crashes, you still have all your important files backed up as well as pictures, music, movies anything else you may have collected along the way.

Now HERE is a great get started list for WAHM's and SAHM's to go by. It is for Windows XP, but most of it is still relevant and the only help list I could find to date that was not to techy.

HERE is another post on Anti-Virus protection. HERE is another, this one is free.

You will also want to do a defrag and a scan disk. These can be found under Control Panel, Performance Information, Tasks (on left). You will want to carefully manage your start up programs, do a disk clean up, and run a defrag (under advanced tools). One more thing is to go to Internet Options, delete your history and if you need to the cookies, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

While your computer is defragmenting you can get back to overhauling your house. Here are a couple of blogs to inspire you.

Tomorrow we will begin on all those files you need to back up and clear off your computer.

  7. What a great project. I know I really need to back up my files. I already do pretty well at keeping the computer fairly clean. I run CrapCleaner and love it.
